Well respected by his peers, colleagues and many others in the music industry, DJ Battlecat is an original member of the
California Cat Crew with
DJ Bobcat, and an original
1580 KDAY DJ for the renowned
Mix Master Show, he is also an original member of
Uncle Jam’s Army a former American funk collective crew based in Los Angeles, California and the "
World Class Wreckin' Cru" in the 1980's which was among the earliest hip-hop groups on the West Coast that helped bring the Hip-Hop and Electro sound and culture to Los Angeles. In the early 90's,
DJ Battlecat blew up as a producer with the release of Hip-Hop Artist Domino’s huge hit(s) “Getto Jam” and “Sweet Potato Pie" and co-producing "
Bangin' on Wax" which is the debut album by American Hip hop group "
Bloods &
Crips" and was not just an album but a MOVEMENT that peacefully brought 2 rival Gangs together in Los Angeles for the creation of an album.
DJ Battlecat quickly built his repertoire by producing songs such as Kurupt’s “We Can Freak It,” the majority of The Eastsidaz debut album Snoop Dogg Presents The Eastsidaz including the hit single “G’d Up,” and their follow up album Duces ‘n Trayz: The Old Fashioned Way including the hit single “I Luv It.” Add Tyrese’s “Just a Baby Boy” from the soundtrack to the hit movie Baby Boy and co-producing Xzibit’s “Get Your Walk On.”
He was key in developing the “West Coast” GFunk sound while working with artists such as Dr. Dre, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Nipsey Hussle, King Tee, Spice 1, Kurupt, Tha Dogg Pound, E-40, Tha Eastsidaz, WC, Nate Dogg, Xzibit, Dj Pooh, DJ Quik, Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band, Brian McKnight, Lucy Pearl, BJ the Chicago Kid, Talib Kweli, Kenny Lattimore, Deborah Cox, Faith Evans, and many others.
